PROGRESS ON INTERNAL RAILWAY MANAGEMENT

In 2022, considerable progress was made in the management of rail-port traffic. On the one hand, the Port Authority is now assuming the management of rail traffic in the port, and is taking on manoeuvres and shunting tasks that had been previously been performed by ADIF, with a view to providing a universal, neutral and competitive service 24/7.

NEW CONTAINER SERVICES WITH THE UNITED STATES AND THE UNITED KINGDOM

The Port of Bilbao already has a container service that connects Bilbao directly with the east coast of the USA.
The USX-United States Express service, handled by Marítima Dávila is operated by Ellerman City Liners and has been launched with the BUX FAVOURITE vessel, which has a capacity of approximately 3,000 TEUs.

The new W.E.C. Lines North Spain Canary Islands and UK Portugal (NSC/UKPT) service between Bilbao and Liverpool was launched on 18 February.

THE PORT OF BILBAO, IDENTIFIED AS A GREEN CORRIDOR BETWEEN SPAIN AND THE UNITED KINGDOM

The shipping route between the port of Bilbao and the United Kingdom has been identified as a potential green corridor to help decarbonise shipping.
For Andima Ormaetxe, Director of Operations, Commerce and Logistics of the Port Authority of Bilbao, “the development of green and digital shipping corridors is a priority for the Port of Bilbao». The Port of Bilbao has been following a strategy of sustainability and leading actions in this area since 2005, and these initiatives will now be boosted with the investment in the electrification of the port docks and the Basque Hydrogen Corridor. The status of the Port of Bilbao as the leader in shipping services to the Atlantic Arc, and to the United Kingdom in particular, has been further strengthened with the introduction of more environmentally-friendly vessels in the last two years.

THE PORT AUTHORITY OF BILBAO CALLS FOR TENDERS FOR THE CONSTRUCTION AND OPERATION OF A CONTAINER TERMINAL ON THE CENTRAL QUAY

The Board of Directors of the Port Authority of Bilbao has unanimously approved the call for a public tender for the award of a concession for the construction and operation of a maritime container terminal on the Central Quay of the port of Bilbao.

THE PORT AUTHORITY OF BILBAO PRESENTS ITS STRATEGY PLAN 2023-2026

At the official presentation of the plan to a large representation of the port community, the President of the Port Authority, Ricardo Barkala, pointed out that the strategy defined follows from the mission of improving the competitiveness of the port’s customers by contributing to the sustainable socio-economic development of the port’s catchment area.
